The Old Red Bridge holds many secrets for Hannah and her family. Bartell left her with three children when he joined forces with the Indiana Brigade in the Civil War in 1861. He failed to return when the war was over, and she continued to wonder if he would return to his old brutal ways. Bartell was enjoying a raucous life wandering the Midwest but when a tragic accident left him a cripple, he decided to return to Griffin and his wife.
